The other night I knelt by Jonah's bed to talk to him before he went to sleep. He got on his knees took my face in his hands and kissed me on my forehead, my chin, my nose and both of my cheeks. He pulled away and said decidedly, "now you have super-powers." Yes!!! Just what I wanted for Christmas...I'll let you know exactly which powers I actually have as soon as I figure out how to be faster than a speeding 6 year old and leap tall piles of laundy in a single bound. Gotta go....."it's clobberin' time!"

As we all kneel down for family prayer we hold hands and as someone prays my kids do this thing where they squeeze my hand three times . Each squeeze represents one word ....I-love-you. The other day Alek squeezed my hand only two times. As soon as we had said our amens, he quickly questioned whether I know why he only squeezed twice. To his delight I had no idea. He enthusiastically informed me that two squeezes means, "You Rock"! Thanks Alek!

I love watching my boys play soccer! However; after a season of 6 practices a week and 3 games every Saturday, following the third final game and the third end of season party, I throw a little party of my own. I pack up all the shin guards and purple shirts and do the "no more soccer until next year!" dance.

Check out my Slide Show!

Yesterday I fixed omelets for breakfast. Alek was very excited and was already indulging himself when Cairan came down to eat. Through a mouth full of mish-mashed ham, cheese and eggs Alek exclaimed, "We're having vomits for breakfast!" You're all invited to breakfast next time we have vomits!

Jonah is a riot! He has more personality than his little body can contain. We saw this chalk drawing at a soccer game one day and he decided it was him. He promptly and strategically placed himself on the ground to prove it to us. Note the wrist guards. Those are not any ordinary wrist guards....they're his "fire hands" of course! He is at such a fun age. You know, when they can fully communicate but their word and phrase choices are often quite comical. He is always explaining to us that, "little kids don't like that". Most often referring to salad however if he can work it in at other times he will try using that as a reason to get out of going somewhere or doing something he doesn't want to. Just the other day Stu gave Haydn a drink of Jonah's Propel. Jonah quickly responded in protest by explaining to Stu that "my drinks don't like to share people. Drinks don't share people" Just today Stu was helping him change his shirt when he shrieked, "you made my teeth eat my tongue!" Like I said, Jonah is a riot! We sure love having him around!

The other day I was sitting on the couch reading a book to my boys. As it related to the story we were reading, I stopped and asked them, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" I was especially curious about Alek as he never really talks about it. I looked to him for his answer and he said emphatically, "I want to be me!" I am so glad he enjoys who he is because I wouldn't want him to be anybody else either.

Louder than words!

Happy Halloween!

Here are some pumpkins we carved for the contest at scouts. We call them Puke-O-Lantern and Jack-O-Cannibal. I wish I could claim them as original designs but of course we saw them online and copied them.

We love living near the coast. I personally think that it's madness to play in water so cold it makes you cry out in pain. Well, I cry out anyway. I am happy to stay on the beach and out of the water. Not my boys.....they were born to boogie! I can't keep them out of it. They ride those frigid waves on their boogie boards. This year we added skim boards and Cairan and Haydn tried surfing. They're hooked! What can I say, we love the beach!

So this has been quite the week. I think I'm averaging 2 come-aparts a day! Not the little teeny, tiny get choked up kind but rather the big, brilliant explosive kind. The other day I drove over to Papa Murphy's to get pizza because, well I just couldn't deal with dinner because we had pumpkin guts all over the counter due to the pumpkin carving contest we were participating in at pack meeting (Is it ok to detest scouts when you have 4 boys?) in an hour. I get there and don't have my wallet so I get to drive home and back again in rush hour traffic. I'm finally in line to pay for our pizza. Alek is of course climbing all over the counter trying to watch the main attraction (a bunch of pizza faced teenagers constructing our pizzas and those of a dozen other hungry customers). Jonah who doesn't want to miss out on all the action is screaming to watch. I ask Haydn to lift him up so that he can see what must be the greatest food assembly line ever, which he kindly does. Haydn leans him up against the counter where Jonah proceeds to throw himself back and yell. Haydn quickly puts him down and throws his hands in the air looking at me as if to say, "I'm innocent, I didn't do anything". I look down at Jonah who is doubled over and in his clearest, loudest voice he booms, "YOU HURT MY WIENER!" Ahhh, my favorite vulgar slang word. Just another reason I love being a boy mom. So many opportunities make other people laugh........at me!

Oh for the lazy days of summer!

I was sitting here at the computer and Haydn walked up and started rubbing my shoulder. I sort of subconsciously realized that he had just walked out of the bathroom and his hands were neither wet nor damp. I instinctively questioned whether he had washed his hands. His face took on this huge smile and he said, "almost". What does that mean exactly? "Almost!?!" was my reply, "what do you mean, almost?" "I almost thought about it," he said over his shoulder as he headed back into the bathroom. I wish you could have seen his face. He is killing me with his ever expanding sense of humor!
Thanks Corrin for the inspiration! I'm back!

Here's Cairan story. We watched Oprah's primetime show on opening the school in South Africa. I had already watched it and wanted my boys to watch it. Not to see how great Oprah is, but to see the stories of those amazing girls and how life can be much different than the life they know. It certainly had a profound affect on Cairan. He had a hard time controlling his emotions....I refer to it as an overabundance of empathy. He looked up at me through his tear stained face and said, "I just want to do something!" Oh, how I know the feeling. Wanting to make a difference in a big world but feeling so small. We worked through all of the emotions and he decided that he wanted to sleep on the floor "to know how that girl felt". And so he did. I am convinced that he is going to "do something" one day!

From Cry the Beloved Country
"My friend, your anxiety turned to fear and your fear turned to sorrow. But sorrow is better than fear. For fear impoverishes always, while sorrow may enrich....Fear is a journey, but sorrow at least is an arriving...when a storm threatens, a man is afraid for his house...but when the house is destroyed, there is something to do. About a storm he can do nothing, but he can rebuild a house."

Another great Alek story......
Alek attends a mermaid party at which he is the only boy. As they are cutting the cake, Alek looks that mermaid cake up and down and says, "I want a breast".
He's 5!!!
